Kearns seeks support for special election assembly seat
I have recently started my campaign for the Special Election to be held
Tuesday, March 20th for New York State’s 145th Assembly District Seat.
The 145th Assembly District is made up of portions of the Fillmore,
Lovejoy, and South Districts of Buffalo, portions of Lackawanna,
Orchard Park, and West Seneca.
I am running to be an independent voice in Albany and to get to work creating jobs here in Western New York.
Over the past six years, I have had the honor of being elected and
twice re-elected to serve as the South District Representative on the
Buffalo Common Council. As a councilmember I work hard every day as an unyielding advocate for your best interests in your government. I have a proven record of transparency, problem solving, holding people accountable and for creating community initiatives that improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
Rodriguez to leave Brown administration
The acting corporation counsel David Rodriguez is leaving the Brown administration in March for a position at the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority.
Members of the Brown administration indicated in the media he had asked to go to the position at BMHA. He had been previously rejected as the corporation attorney for the City of Buffalo by the Buffalo Common Council because he attempted to challenge Councilman David Rivera for a committee member position.
His departure leaves the Brown administration devoid of any Puerto Ricans in top policy positions.
This lack of a Puerto Rican presence in the Brown administration has troubled many in the Puerto Rican community. No Latinos were appointed in the Brown administration beyond the positions of only directors.
This is going to be a problem for Brown if he seeks a third term. His only top level appointment was when he appointed Betty Calvo Torres to a vacancy in City Court.

Obama state of union on immigration reform
“The opponents of action are out of excuses. We should be working on comprehensive immigration reform right now. But if election-year politics keeps Congress from acting on a comprehensive plan, let’s at least agree to stop expelling responsible young people who want to
staff our labs, start new businesses, and defend this country. Sendme a law that gives them the chance to earn their citizenship. I will sign it right away.”

What he thinking!
Andrew Adler, the owner of local publication the Atlanta Jewish Times, has apologized after suggesting that assassinating President Barack Obama is an option that should be considered by the Israeli government.
As reported by Gawker, Adler’s article, written earlier this month, describes the urgency in protecting the Israeli people from threats such as Hamas and Hezbollah and argues
Espada making headlines
Espada allegedly submitted a document to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that falsely claimed his salary of $246,750 had been reduced to $185,063 between February 2009 and January 2010, according to papers unsealed in Brooklyn Federal Court.
The superceding indictment also charges Espada with under-reporting the profits of a janitorial company he controlled that had a contract with the non-profit Bronx health clinic.
Espada and his son Pedro G. Espada were charged in January 2011 with using more than $500,000 from the Soundview Health Care Network for personal expenses, including tickets to Broadway shows and sporting events, dinners and a luxury car. They are also charged with tax evasion.
Latin American and Caribbean Nations forming important bloc
Thirty-three Latin American and Caribbean nations gathered in Caracas to form one of the most important alliances in this century that doesn’t include the United States or Canada. And on “…. Saturday approved 22 documents, officially signing into effect the formation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as the new leading regional bloc.
To dream or not to dream Obama deportations record worse than Bush
They are the “dreamers” immigrants that come to the United States young and over stay visas or tie the knot to citizenship. And the Barack Obama administration is detaining and deporting this group in record numbers even much more than George Bush in the eight years in the White House. Obama administration is removing millions four to six of these dreamers and many of them housed in detention facilities right here in Buffalo and Batavia some waiting months or years to challenge their cases in a court system inadequately staff to process them.
Many of these dreamers are Latinos the leaders of the communities pressured Obama to shift his policy from indiscriminately hauling anyone picked up into jail or detention facilities set up around the country to house them. And they have been successful though many view it as a band-aid approach prosecuting and targeting while considering the circumstances of those detained and arrested.
With 53% vs 47%, Mark Poloncarz too far ahead of incumbent Erie County Executive Chris Collins. The Buffalo Puerto Rican Press calls this race for Poloncarz. Editor-in-Chief of the Buffalo City Express News blogger Maria Rosa also call this race for Poloncarz yesterday evening before any other on-line publication.
This signified the citizens and voters of Erie County fed up with Chris Collins running it as a business cutting vital social services program and slashing the arts and cultural organization in the city. Buffalo may be one of the poorest cities in the nation but the folks here love their children and their arts and cultural organization, something Chris Collins disregarded along with the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
