Sears declined GOP nomination for 13th district senate seat!
Former Council Woman Helen Sears declined to run on Monday, February 22, 2010. So it’s back to Hiram Monserrate and José Peralta running for the 13 District Senate seat special election on March 16, that is if Monserrate submits more than 3000 signatures he’ll need to get on the ballot as an independent or Peralta easily slips into the seat. Still who fills his Assembly seat?
In an earlier post, NY Daily News writer Elizabeth Benjamin, quoted Mr. Peralta when he said, “its nearly impossible to beat an incumbent in this day and age… (they) have every resource available to them, from money to volunteers.”
Since the ouster of Monserrate, he has the power of incumbency now. Though, with the endorsements he has picked up lately along with the support of the gay community, Peralta possibly would have succeeded in winning the 13th District Senate seat without all the political drama that resulted with the ouster of Monserrate.
Why, both Republicans and Democrats took the course of expelling one of their members for a misdemeanor in light of the bigger scandal developing with Governor Paterson may prove to be a political bombshell for others in a similar situation in the future.
