Is buffalorising magazine really rising or falling?

Dr. Patricia Devis, North District Candidate

Dr. Patricia E. Devis is a one of three North District candidates for the Buffalo Board of Education.  Her name is on the ballot under Level A, the School Board Election is May 4, polls open at 6 AM and close at 9 PM.

The other candidates on  the ballot  in the North District are Lawrence Scott and Jay McCarthy. Central District: Bryon McIntyre.  East District: Vivian O. Evans and Dr. Theresa Harris-Tigg. Ferry District: Pamela Perry-Cahill and Kinzer Pointer. Park District: Louis Petrucci. West District: Ralph Hernandez and Philip Lomax. Matthew Ricchiazzi is running as a write-candidate in the North District.

The article “Get out and VOTE May 4th” Mr.Newell Nussbaumer, aka, “Queenseyes”  co-founder/President of BuffaloRising On-line magazine, appearing on Sunday, April 25, 2010, posted the photographs of  only the white male North District candidates.

Christopher Smith, a writer at in news story about the magazine  asked the question: Buffalo Rising?

Back on July 2007,  Smith wrote,  “while promoting the wonders of Buffalo to the local audience, Buffalo Rising on-line (BRO)is perfectly content to promote some very ugly, very negative stories about Buffalo (and Lockport, County of Niagara), to a separate worldwide audience to artificially inflate  web statistics.”

As Smith wrote, “YWCA heroin-at-daycare case on BRO and a story BRO didn’t post (but did) about the man who was beaten with his own prosthetic leg ,as well as, …BRO’s cache site, with sodomizing pitbulls galore.”

Readers of his article published in BRO on Sunday afternoon “Get out and  VOTE May 4th”  question whether it’s one of his attempts to promote his very ugly  and negative stories about Buffalo to get a pecuniary advantage to direct traffic to  the website?

If so, it’s a pitiful excuse laden with bigotry, racism and sexism contrary to the mission and image the BRO Magazine wants to project about the City of Buffalo, particularly during a School Board election and he questioned why few vote for such an important race!  He asked readers for comments on what candidates they want to see on the School Board and their qualifications.

First lets start with informing them who is running, in what Districts, then sharing the qualifications of  all the  candidates  on the ballots, including  the write-in candidacy of Mr. Ricchiazzi who until the article in BRO no one knew he was in the race since the Buffalo News article and Artvoice publicized his status without any response from him.

Mr. Nussbaumer’s comments  were very troubling and disturbing while asking  readers of BRO to go to the polls, ignoring the female candidate  on the ballot from the North District who met the legal requirements of the Election law.

Mr.  Nussbaumer wrote, “When it comes to school board elections, what is it that you want to see in a candidate? Really. Think about it. What sort of qualifications does it take to be on the board…”  “I decided to ask three North District candidates to submit their platforms.” “After talking with Matt, he asked if we would please add his platform statement, as he is looking for enough write-in votes to win. As for the two candidates who will be listed on the ballot, they are Lawrence Scott and Jay McCarthy.”

Unless, Mr. Nussbaumer knows something the rest of us don’t know, Dr. Patricia E. Devis is a North District candidate for the Buffalo Board of Education voters should pull Level A at least that is the latest information from the Erie County Board of Elections cited on The Insurgent Teacher , April 22, 2010 as an update on the elections who  made the ballot. Platforms and video presentations of the candidates from the North District, Park District and West District  appeared at Stonewall Democrats WNY website and a linked put on The Buffalo Puerto Rican Press blog.

And the Buffalo News reported on Saturday, April 24,  “the only other candidate removed from the ballot was Matthew Ricchiazzi. He filed petitions to run in the North District…”  while first the Buffalo News mentioned Jim Williams from the West District and Mary Ruth Kapsiak, incumbent from the Central District removed from the ballot. Where was Buffalo Rising on-line when all of these media reports in all the outlets in town reported?

Mr. Nussbaum italicized …will… mentioning only  Lawrence Scott and Jay McCarthy  as the only candidates, ignoring Dr. Devis while   Mr. Ricchiazzi  is not on the ballot though  as a write-in now, smacks of the  ugly very ugly and negative reporting Mr. Smith attributed to Buffalo Rising in the article he wrote back in July 2007. Buffalo Rising?

Sources  allegedly supporting and working  with Mr. Ricchiazzi informed this blog he was  not defending his nominating petitions in court reinforced in an article appearing in Artvoice,  Tuesday, April 20, that North District candidate Jim McCarthy challenged his signatures and  his petitions had problems. The following comments appeared on BuffaloRising on-line  from a reader (ecogeo) and Mr. Nussbaum response, a.k.a as Queenseyes

April 25, 2010 4:42 PMAccording to the board of elections (as of 4/21) there are three candidates on the ballot. Did you contact Patricia Devis for her platform?

April 25, 2010 5:15 PMOh please, why would you possibly think that “queenseyes” would write about Devis, a person who actually cares about what she is running for. Much easier to repeat sound bites from that idiot ricciazzi.(sic)

Buffalo is truly rising, but unfortunately, the African American and Latino community is the one population in Buffalo that is falling. This is a national trend, monkey see, monkey do! The black and Latino characteristic (welfare mentality, pants down, black on black crime, etc, etc)is being duplicated in all the inner-cities or urban centers in the USA. We need to stop pointing the finger at the “system” or the “white men” and begin to take direct responsibiltiy for our growth and development.
Yes, Buffalo is rising, but the black and latino community, because of their welfare or consumer mentality, is not part of “Buffalo is rising.”

The truth of the matter is that, “we are now being judged by the content of our character, not by the color of our skin.”

Anyone that refuses to accept this is part of the problem, not the solution.
