Neil Abercrombie from Buffalo, NY to Governor of Hawaii
In 1959, when my family settled in the U.S Mainland from Puerto Rico, a youthful Neil Abercrombie who was born in the Buffalo, grew up in Williamsville, New York went to Hawaii study at the University of Manoa where he earned both a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American Studies.
After serving in various elected positions in state government from City Council, State Senate, State House of Representatives to a Congressional Representative, Neil Abercrombie sworn in as the 7th Governor of Hawaii on December 6, 2010, inaugurated Governor of Hawaii five days later.
Abercrombie is liberal, pro-choice, didn’t support the Patriot Act or its extension , voted against the invasion of Iraq and voted No on constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one woman. He married the political scientist and feminist Dr. Nancie Caraway. He befriended the parents of Barack Obama and advocated releasing his birth records to the public to silence his critics to show evidence that the President of the United States was born in Hawaii.
