Redistricting map silences voice of LGBTQ, Hispanics and Blacks

Bryan Ball, Pres. Stonewall Democrats WNY

There is  disappointment brewing about the redistricting map  the Reapportionment Advisory Committee of the Erie County Legislature concocted that has many residents troubled and worried such as  Bryan Ball, president of Stonewall Democrats of WNY  who spoke before the committee on May 15.

He called the map Committee Chair Adam Perry disclosed “…as a transparent attempt to draw districts favoring Erie County Executive Chris Collins and the legislators who vote with him.”  And he further stated, “the map submitted by Perry blatantly disregards and splices heavily LGBTQ neighborhoods such as Allentown and the Elmwood Village in the City of Buffalo,” while “uses the same tactic to silence the city’s Hispanic and African-American communities.”

He saw it as a “frightening prospect” a redistricting map drawn up to eliminate  or to silence the voice of these groups in the Erie County Legislature when the idea behind  the map was a partisan attempt to help or to hinder  legislators aligned with County Executive Chris Collins that has nothing to do with these communities.
