Juanita Perez Williams first Latina Mayoral Candidate in Syracuse, NY

August 10, 2017

image.jpgThe City of Dunkirk, NY elected its first Puerto Rican Mayor, Wilfred Rosas, nearly two years ago, the only one in NYS.

Now it’s Syracuse, NY,  making headline news as it may potentially elect its first Latina for Mayor, Juanita Perez Williams, formerly from San Diego, California.

Perez Williams has impressive credentials from a former lieutenant Commander  in the Navy Judge Advocate Program to a City of Syracuse corporation counsel she appears to have done it all. And she is Mexican-American.

Perez Williams has been endorsed by the Public Employees Federation (PEF), Latino Professional Network of Syracuse (LPNS), the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Workers, Local #195, and VoteVets

The City of Syracuse has a population of under 145,000. Latinos make up over 8%, yet, have a representative on the city school board and a Latino Superintendent of Schools.
